QUALITIES OF A GOOD LEADER: YOUNG NIGERIAN LEADERS

Having a great idea, and assembling a team to bring that concept to life is the first step in creating a successful leadership. While finding a new and unique idea is rare enough; the ability to successfully execute this idea that you have in mind is what separates the dreamers from the doers.

Are you a young leader or are you willing to become one?
If the answer is yes, start working on yourself.

HONESTY:
Whatever ethical plane you hold yourself to, when you are responsible for a team of people, it's important to raise the bar even higher. Your followers, your supporters should be a reflection of yourself, and if you make honest and ethical behavior a key value, your team, your supporters, followers will follow suit.

ABILITY TO DELEGATE:
Finessing your brand vision is essential to creating an organized and efficient leadership, but if you don’t learn to trust your followers with that vision, you might never progress to the next stage. It's important to remember that trusting your followers, your team with your idea is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Are you able to carry us your followers to the next level? If yes, start working on yourself. Nigeria needs you.
Delegating tasks to the appropriate people is one of the most important skills you can develop as your leadership grows hence, start working on yourself. You would be called upon soon.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Knowing what you want to accomplish may seem clear in your head, but if you try to explain it to someone else and you are met with a blank expression, you know there is a problem. If this has been your experience, then you may want to focus on honing your communication skills. Being able to clearly and succinctly describe what you want done or want to do is extremely important.
You must be succinct not evasive like Fashola, you must utilise the tool and know that communication is a two-way street, you must be plain and you must be understood.
If you can relate your vision to your followers, you would all be working towards the same goal. Now, Nigeria needs you start working for Nigeria and in the interest of Nigeria and service to Nigeria.

ENCOURAGEMENT:
Can you encourage and carry the country along? Can you make your followers want to follow you and still be to laughing at their mistakes even when one is made instead of crying? Look at the mistake in the country instead of them making us laugh with the promise of assuaging our plights they are telling us to go and die because there is nothing we can do.
If you are that leader we are yearning for you desperately start working on yourself now. Nigerian is waiting for you. If you are constantly learning to find the humor in the struggles, your work environment, your country would empathise with you and would want to follow you till you will create a happy and healthy country that we would look forward to living in peace and prosperity, rather than dreading it and wanting to take the nearest opportunity out.

CONFIDENCE:
There may be days where the future of your country is worrisome and things aren’t going according to plan. This is true with any country, large or small, and the most important thing is not to panic but rather instil confidence in yourself and in your followers. Part of your job as a leader is to put out fires and maintain the followers morale. Keep up your confidence level, and assure everyone that setbacks are natural and the important thing is to focus on the larger goal. As the leader, by staying calm and confident, you will help keep the followers feeling the same way.

COMMITMENT:
If you need and expect your followers, your team to produce quality content, you’re going to need to lead by example because you lead and some follow. There is no greater motivation than seeing the boss down in the trenches working alongside everyone else, showing that hard work is being done on every level. By proving your commitment to the brand and your role, you will not only earn the respect of your followers but you will also instill that same hardworking energy among them. It’s important to show your commitment not only to the work at hand but also to your promises.

If you pledge to give unemployment benefits until you can create the jobs keep to your words, if not immediately let the followers know your constraints, your impediment, carry them along that at the fullness of time your promises would be kept. Never ever promise what you cannot achieve, don't deceive Nigerians because we have had enough of the deceit.

You want to create a reputable brand for not just working hard, but also be known as a fair leader that is willing to do more. Once you have gained the respect of your followers, they are more likely to deliver the peak amount of quality work possible for the country to move forward.
Young Nigerian leaders beckon, Nigeria is ready for the revolution of the mind in a peaceful way and led by the youths. 25-55 years of age.

Nigeria beckons.
Let's go there.
