12 DANGEROUS PEOPLE TO MARRY - BY MR. ONWUKA AZUKA

Topic Delivered on the 3rd June 2015 at the YOUCAT program

Speaker of the day
The easiest time to prevent a divorce or an unhappy marriage is before marriage, not after. There is no gain saying that love can have such a drunken effect on the about to-wed that clear danger signals become unimportant to them, while hope becomes their only commodity. After all, is it not said that love conquers all? Agape or Eros? Why compare God- love, which is unconditional, with sexual love, which can be waver?

There are traits that some people cannot drop. It is like hoping that a right-handed spouse will one day become left-handed: a classical case of waiting for Godot!

If you are looking for a wife or a husband, please be wary of these 12 groups of people

THOSE WHO CAN NEVER APOLOGISE
They would hurt you, annoy you, disappoint you, but would never apologize, because they believe that it would belittle and demean them. When you are wrong, you apologize to them, hoping that they would change. But they never do. Soon you start to feel irritated and agitated. The love and respect you felt for them start to wear out.

THOSE THAT CAN NEVER SAY THANK YOU
Whatever you do for them, they are never grateful. They make statements like: “why should I say thank you when you are just doing your duty? “Some would say that their gratitude is in their heart. So, do I have to open your heart to see the gratitude inside and get it? Ingratitude is an attitude that causes irritation, frustration and unhappiness.

Such people also believe the world owes them a lot. They go around their activities with an entitlement mentality. They are difficult to please.

CHALLENGES FACING YOUTHS: NEW AGE INFILTRATION, DOCTRINE.

Doctrine is all the church teaching in matters of faith and morals.
We are in a time when new age philosophy has infiltrated the church and badly enough, is promoted by the youths.

A major problem facing youths today is the incorporation of Faith and Spirituality into their everyday lives.  Youths may think religion is “not cool” which can have a negative effect on their morals and values.
Another challenge that catholic youths face and struggle with is maintaining their faith in the presence of those who do not believe or are critical of their beliefs.  Living in a society that lacks religion and moral authority leads youths to engage in immoral behaviour and become hypocritical.

What are the biggest challenges (New Age Infiltration & Doctrine) facing Christian youths today? There certainly are many. I compiled a top list from surveys that have been done
Corrupt line of thinking that the tools of Satan can be used for God’s glory e.g. common approach to these practices are the overemphasizing of signs and wonders through the promotion of contemplative prayer, meditation, yoga, trances, empowerment's  etc. .

Modern Christianity: Personalizing/living out your faith, new age practices repackaged with Christian lingo and terminology on premarital sex, drug use, drunkenness, and profanity. E.g. Young people are often encouraged to believe "the problem" of pregnancy is solved by contraception and even abortion, both of which are presented as good and physically trouble free, and that if they do not feel this way about these things then something is wrong with them. Such illusions are presented as normal and common in such a way that disagreement provokes isolation and rejection.

Extra biblical religion that goes beyond the parameters of the scripture. Many do not even know how to read the scriptures for themselves, they have put their trust and faith into mere men who blind them with cotton candy theology hence creates people who do not accept the fundamentals of the true faith.

Turning God into a form of cosmic energy that can be accessed from His creation, rather than from the creator being separate from what he has created.
Self-seeking religion that knows nothing to taking up his cross and following Jesus Christ. Living in an anti-Christian culture.

The gospel about personal success and having self-esteem. It is all about attaining your human potential and becoming a deity like god, the word sin and repentance are foreign concept.

Unemployment also worsens every youth problem. All of us, governments, business, unions, and churches, have to recognize that youth unemployment is intolerably high. Generations today and tomorrow will pay an increasing price unless this situation is improved hence we have more youths going contrary to the doctrine.

SEX IN A RELATIONSHIP - PART 2 BY DAVID IHIDERO

Topic delivered on the 8th July 2015 at the YOUCAT

HOW TO SPICE UP MY RELATIONSHIP ASIDE SEX
AGENDA
Sex in relationship

Introduction
·         The Real qualities of your partner.
·          How to spice up your relationship aside sex.
·          Sex is not love
·         Conclusion

SEX IN A RELATIONSHIP
·         Sex is good
·         Sex is from God
·         Sex is not a sin
·         Sex should only be enjoyed in marriage

       INTRODUCTION

It is a great thing to have a relationship with Christ. You are in a godly relationship. If you have a relationship with Christ, it is absurd for you to have a relationship with someone who does not know Christ.
Amos 3:3 says ‘can two walk together except they agree'. You can’t date someone to change the person but you can only advise, pray or intercede for the person, that he or she comes to know Christ, not you.

As a Christian/believer, for you to enjoy your relationship, you must be in a relationship with another believer.

THE REAL QUALITIES OF YOUR PARTNER
“He is nice”, “she is a good person”, “he is cheerful”, “she is lovely”, and “he is handsome”.... Galatians 5:22 says ‘the fruits of the spirit includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, against these things, there is no law.’ so being nice, lovely, good or cheerful isn’t the fruit of the spirit. Check for the real thing; no matter how nice he is, he can beat you up and nicely get you a nice gift. You think she is so lovely, is she as lovely as Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez or Hally berry, do they have good marriages?
Being lovely is good, but check for the real things.
Proverbs 31:30 says ‘beauty is in vain, fear is deceitful, but the woman that fears the Lord shall be praised’

HOW TO SPICE UP YOUR RELATIONSHIP ASIDES SEX
It is very difficult to say no to sex especially in this sexual tempting and pervert world.
·         Pray together: it is the foundation of every godly relationship.
·         Study the word of God together: feed your spirit man with the word of God.
·         Ensure your purpose in life is okay with your partner.
·         Go out on dates: relationships are both spiritual and physical.
·         Visitation: visit each other, face to face communications are very important.
SEX IS NOT LOVE

SEX is SEX - LOVE is LOVE

Sex and Love are not the same thing.  The moment you introduce sex into your relationship as a single person, you have already destroyed the real purpose of sex. Sex is from GOD and it is for a GODLY seed. The sperm is a token of your virtue and your seed, don’t waste it AROUND. Compatibility and Purpose helps to develop your relationship not SEX. Proverbs 6:26 says ‘Fornication will reduce a man to a piece of bread for the adulterer seek for the precious soul’.

CONCL USION: SEX is not a SPICE to your relationship, rather it is a TRAP to hunt down your precious soul. SEX in MARRIAGE is a BLESSING. God will enable us and give us the grace to obey his commands in Jesus name….. AMEN

CONTEMPORARY INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY EFFECTS AND REMEDY.

Topic Delivered on: May 2015.
By Fidelis-Mary Osaibo

ICT is the use of the computer and any other device, portable, stationary or mobile, to obtain useful and concise information. It involves gaining access to the internet/networks or World Wide Web through search engines or queries to gather data that is processed into information we need.

ICT has made life and living easy. Every aspect of our lives has been affected by technology, for example – communications (we use to go to a phone booth, pay phone to make call but now we use mobile phone right in the privacy of our rooms); also we must go to cyber-café to have access to the internet but now its optional as we have computing ability and power of the internet right in the palm of our hands. A mobile phone now has so much processing power than earlier computer systems.

SOME SECTORS WHERE THE ICT is being used includes:
·         Government (to process documentation faster and payment of taxes and dues to government etc.)
·         Education (to enhance e-learning, distant or online learning, gaining access to wide range of information or library etc)
·         Security/Crime fighting (Security homes and business, locking out of criminals, monitoring and preventing crimes, arresting criminals through finger printing and DNA or forensic identification of criminals with a database)
·         Communications (Email, mobile phones, video conferencing, remote control access, GPS and data encryption etc)
·         Entertainment (Digital Satellite TV/Transmission, Online streaming, music download, radio and gaming etc.)
·         Research and Development (Availability of tons of resources on the information highway through the use of search engines like Google, Bing etc.)
·         Business (Online presence of business and store, makes it easy to buy and have good delivered without stepping outside your home or office)
·         Banking (Online account money transfer, transactions and Withdrawal from ATM machines)
·         Manufacturing (Ease of having a stream-less flow of turnout of products, made to specifications through programming and quality control etc)
·         Scientific Research
·         Religion (For Evangelisation, administration, digitalisation of the Scripture and documents presented in multimedia format that can easily be made available to people anywhere in the world over the internet or other means)
·         Personal uses of ICT apart from those mentioned above include: translator (communicate in a foreign language), mathematical functions, appointment/time keeper, Journal or diary, entertainment, learning aid, emails, sms, pitting, chatting etc.

ADVANTAGES OF ICT: ICT enables us to do work faster (speed), effectively, efficiently, more volume of work is done, there is accuracy, repeated tasks can be done without diminishing, and things can be more clearly and easy to understand.

ADVERSE EFFECTS OF ICT: The following (but not limited to) are the adverse effects of ICT:
·         Lack of privacy – stealing of personal information (identity theft, financial information, hacking, cyber stalking). The information we put on the internet are available for anyone to have access to using the right program or search engine.
·         Over-dependence on technology especially by students and young people leads to laziness, damping of our brain power, poor retention and learning of the basic Mathematics, English and spellings.
·         Poor inter-personal interaction/relationship problems – this can lead to loss of family life, poor social interaction with real people instead of virtual friends online. Many marriages are having problems because some spouses spend more time online rather than with each other leading to breakdown of communication and suspicion.
·         Health problems – Eye defects may arise due to prolong fixing of the eye on computer, phone or television screens. Other health issues such as obesity, deafness (due to using ear piece with loud music), sleep disorder and even death can occur when it becomes excessive.
·         Moral decadence – Over-dependence on the internet exposes the younger minds to immoral materials and contacts. Some of the videos, images and music uploaded on the net and also some chat sites contain mundane information that contradicts sound morals
·         Loss of Faith/Religions – Most sites contain false propaganda and teachings that brainwash the feeble minds.  Such sights are programmed with contents that can pollute the mind and rub us of our faith.
·         Psychological disorder – Excessive exposure and involvement with the virtual reality of the computer and internet games makes people to lose touch with reality and their local environment.
·         Fraud and Piracy – Stealing of information and money from accounts (via Yahoo-yahoo (419)) when you respond to Spam mails from fraudulent sites and contacts, digitalised propriety works of artists (music); authors (books) and producers (movies) have been stolen online by very clever fraudulent people.

REMEDIES:
Technological issues are resolved technologically, but as individuals we have the final choice on how to use ICT devices so that they do not influence us negatively. It is a case of garbage in garbage out, it is what we put into the computer that it reproduces for us. Technology is a tool which if in the right hands, can be used for good and useful purposes and when in the wrong hands can be used for evil purposes. We can protect and help ourselves when we use ICT devices.
We must make it our personal responsibility to discipline and control ourselves with the use all the forms of ICT; get to know the proper use of the device and follow it.

We must apply the following precautions when using ICT devices;

·         Limit or reduce our dependence on technology and allow our brain to do some basic things in order not to dull the brain.
·         Reduce the frequency of usage and the number of hours and spent using ICT devices for example don’t bring your work home after spending more than 12 hours at the office on the PC; reduce the time spent watching TV, staring at the phone, iPad, tablet screen.
·         Do outdoor activities that take your mind and activities off techs.
·         Read a physical book
·         Come to gatherings like this where you will meet same like minds and share ideas.
·         Don’t put out too much information about you on the internet especially on Facebook (some information put out there may be regretted later) so try to remain anonymous and maintain a private profile.
·         Stop downloading free stuffs into your computer or mobile devices that you use to access personal and private information as they could download dangerous viruses and Trojans that can corrupt your delicate information.
·         Do not visit every site especially those that are suspicious and ensure you update your anti-virus programs and security to help block out these intrusions
·         Don’t use your phone or PC on a free Wi-Fi, it could be used to fish out your information and gain access to your data.
·         Don’t open all emails sent to you or mails that claim you have won one thing or the other either on your phone or laptop, they are dangerous.
·         Avoid pornographic sites and anti-Catholic propaganda sites.
·         Be very cautious of what you click, the sites you visit and what you allow yourself to view, just as there is censorship on what we read with respect to books, we must  also place censorship on ourselves with respect to internet usage.

CHALLENGES FACING YOUTHS: LACK OF TRAINED EMPOWERED AND APOLOGETIC LEADERS. By Amaka Monye 22/05/2015

There are so many challenges facing the youths in this modern age of technology. Parental Neglect, Quest for materialism, Impatient, lack of respect for elders, Drug addiction, Westernisation amongst others. These challenges are faced by youths in the various segments of the society: schools, homes, and the church of course. One of the challenges facing the youths in the church is our topic for discussion Untrained, un-empowered and unapologetic leaders in the church are not an exemption.

Let’s define the various words : Untrainedmeans not disciplined. Un-empowered means lack of qualities and abilities. Apologetic means speaking in defence, the act of defending a position. Apologetic leaders are Christians Apologetic which is a field of Christian’s theology that presents reasoned bases for the Christians

Apologetic is the new form of evangelism and  church leaders must be trained to provide  answers to the various questions brought by earnest seekers. Peter himself said in Peter3:14-16 “but even if you should suffer for doing what is right, how happy you are! Do not be afraid of anyone, and do not worry. But have reverence for Christ in your heart, and honour him as Lord. Be ready at all times to answer any one who asks you to explain the hope you have in you, but do it with gentleness and respect.
In the good old days, young minds adhere strictly to almost all instructions given by their parents whom they see as their first leader or guardian as the case maybe. This obedience continues towards their teachers in school and certainly elders and leaders in the church. These days the reverse is the case owing to so many factors which the new media is one of them.
This present age want to know why certain things if not everything should be done. I mean days are gone when people especially the Youths swallow every information hook line and sinker regardless of who the originator or disseminator of the information is. Inability to proffer answers to their questions leaves them with no option than theirs. Now the question is : what is theirs? And this is where the challenge comes in.
The Catholic Church is one of those guilty of this; or do I say the leaders in the Catholic Church? In a Mass of over one thousand Parishioners for instance, if you throw questions like
1.    Why do we make the sign of cross before starting the holy Mass?
2.    Why do we use incense for Mass?
3.    Why do we make the sign of cross on our forehead, lips and chest before the Priest reads the Gospel?
4.    Why go for confession rather than confess to God directly?  And so many other questions I can bet you only a few parishioners will answer. All others do because they were born into it or because they saw others doing it and feelit’s right. I am not an exemption.

FINDING A SUITABLE SPOUSE - Part 1 OSEGHALE ROSEMARY (MRS)

Topic Delivered on 17th June 2015

Flyer of the Day
He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. Proverbs 18:22
House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. Proverbs 19:14
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 peter 3:9
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Ephesians 5:22
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; ... 1 Corinthians 13:1 -13
WHY DO I WANT TO GET MARRIED?
This should be the major question anyone who wants to get married should ask his/her self and should be critically and genuinely answered. This will determine your preparations and goals. Biblically, marriage is for these purposes:

1.  Companionship
2.  Raising children in the way of the lord
3.  To avoid fornication
If these are you reasons, then God should be present in all your plans, he will now guild you in all your steps.

WAYS TO CHOSE THE RIGHT SPOUSE
1.Potential partner with same interests selecting someone who shares a lot of common interests with you will work in your favour. Remember that all your interests don't really have to be the same, but some would do. "When you decide to spend your life with someone, you must look at things that the two of you would love to do together. For example, if you are a movie buff, you would ideally like to be with someone who enjoys movies as well. This will make your life interesting."

2. Consider your partner's intellect if you are a laid-back person and your partner is an over-achiever that could lead to a threat in your marriage. You must see eye to eye on how both of you are able to think and process things.
