Recently named as one of the 10 most powerful men in Africa by Forbes Magazine, Oscar onyema came to prominence when held the positions of senior Vice President and Chief Administrative officer of the American Stock Exchange (AMEX).
Then he came to Nigeria to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. He has gone on to transform the face of the Nigerian Stock Exchange in this role.
The right attitude coupled with his solid team are some of the secrets to his success. Assistant editor of THIS DAY STYLE magazine speaks with Oscar Onyema on the affairs of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and his plans for the future. This one caught my attention.
Any word of advice for entry- level career youths?
"First and most important in my opinion is that you must have clarity of mind that focuses on the vision of where and what you want for your life. Then you must be disciplined; you must be honest to yourself and be very hard working.
You must be very unrelenting and dogged in the pursuit of your vision. Be focused and don't allow anything to distract you from focusing on your goal and above all, You must be fair to your fellow man. "
He also gave an insight into his career history and some of the challenges he had to transcend.
"Speaking of challenges, they are of varying dimensions but what is most intriguing is that they are vital opportunities to chart a new course and do something different and inspiring to further raise the bar in the capital markets"
